Regular Season Round 5: Mt Gambier - Bendigo B. 80-66

No shocking result in a game in Mt Gambier where leader Mount Gambier Pioneers (2-0) defeated 3rd placed Bendigo Braves (0-1) 80-66 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Mount Gambier Pioneers. Bendigo Braves was better in second period 19-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Mount Gambier Pioneers looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Bendigo Braves' players. The best player for the winners was American forward Daniel Alexander (206-91, college: Grand Canyon, agency: Haylett Sports) who had a double-double by scoring 22 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international guard Tom Daly (182-91) chipped in 20 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. Four Mount Gambier Pioneers players scored in double figures. Mount Gambier Pioneers' coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American guard Dyami Starks (188-92, college: Bryant) produced 27 points and 6 rebounds and the former international power forward Matthew Andronicos (208-91) added 12 points and 14 rebounds respectively for the guests. Mount Gambier Pioneers maintains first place in League with 2-0 record. Loser Bendigo Braves still closes the standings with one game lost. Mount Gambier Pioneers will face Canberra Gunners (#6) in Belconnen in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Bendigo Braves will play on the road against the league's second-placed Sabres in Cheltenham and look forward to get finally their first victory.
