Very important is a road loss of third ranked FC Barcelona (17-8) against sixth ranked Gran Canaria (18-8) on Saturday night. Visiting FC Barcelona was defeated by Gran Canaria in Las Palmas 95-82. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of FC Barcelona. The game was mostly controlled by Gran Canaria. FC Barcelona was better in fourth quarter 24-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Gran Canaria shot the lights out from three nailing 16 long-distance shots on high 57.1 percentage. It was an exceptional evening for point guard Albert Oliver (187-78) who led the winners and scored 11 points and 7 assists. The former international Pablo Aguilar (202-89) accounted for 14 points for the winning side. Four Gran Canaria players scored in double figures. Croatian center Ante Tomic (217-87, agency: XL Basketball Agency) came up with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 14 rebounds and the former international guard Juan-Carlos Navarro (192-80) added 19 points respectively for FC Barcelona in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Gran Canaria have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. They moved-up to fifth place. FC Barcelona at the other side dropped to the sixth position with eight games lost. Gran Canaria will play against Joventut (#15) in Badalona in the next round and are hoping to win another game. FC Barcelona will play at home against Zaragoza (#16) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
