Regular Season Round 24: Milano - Alghero 78-41
Date: April 1, 2017
Not a big story in a game when 14th ranked Alghero (1-23) was rolled over on the road by fifth ranked Milano (17-7) 78-41 on Saturday. The game without a history. Milano led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Alghero to just 6 points in first quarter. Milano dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Alghero's 26. Milano forced 26 Alghero turnovers and outrebounded them 47-26 including a 18-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Giulia Maffenini (175-92, agency: Two Points) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 29 points and 13 rebounds and power forward Paola Novati (184-98) who added 11 points during the contest. The best for the losing side was point guard Sara Azzellini (170-86) with 13 points and 5 rebounds and Bulgarian point guard Iva Georgieva (170-96, college: Salt Lake CC) scored 12 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Milano maintains fifth position in A2 with 17-7 record. Newly promoted Alghero keeps the fourteenth place with 23 games lost. Milano will face Scrivia (#7) on the road in the next round. Alghero will play against Team Crema (#4) and hope to win that game.
