Regular Season Round 29: Flamengo - Brasilia 71-77

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Flamengo (20-7) in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by fourth ranked Brasilia (19-9) 77-71. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Flamengo. Brasilia made 26-of-32 free shots (81.3 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. 26 personal fouls committed by Flamengo helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. International Guilherme Giovannoni (203-80) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 11 rebounds and 9 assists (was perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line !!!) for the winners and international power forward Lucas Mariano (208-93) chipped in 20 points. The former international Marquinhos Vieira (207-84) responded with 17 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists and the former international power forward Joao-Paulo Lopez (205-81, college: Gonzaga) scored 11 points and 7 rebounds. Flamengo's coach Jose Neto rotated twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Brasilia moved-up to third place. Defending champion Flamengo still keeps top position with seven games lost. Brasilia are looking forward to face Macae (#13) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Flamengo will play against Minas (#12) and is hoping to win this game.
