There was a surprise result when tenth ranked Gijon (9-14) edged at home higher ranked Ponferrada CDP (14-9) 75-74 on Saturday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Ponferrada CDP won third quarter 22-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. American center Brian Stone (203-94, college: Malone) had a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and point guard Angel Moro (182-93) chipped in 17 points during the contest. American guard Sam Prescott (190-90, college: Mt.St.Mary's) responded with 21 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and Haitian-American forward James Cambronne (201-91, college: St.Michael's) scored 19 points and 7 rebounds. Gijon maintains tenth position in Group A-B with 9-14 record, which they share with Innova Chef. Newly promoted Ponferrada CDP keeps the sixth place with nine games lost. Gijon will face higher ranked Calidus Gal.COB (#3) in Ourense in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
