Regular Season Round 28: Jurmala - Jekabpils 79-69

Very important is a road loss of third ranked Jekabpils (16-13) against eighth ranked Jurmala (12-17) on Saturday night. Visiting Jekabpils were defeated by Jurmala in Jurmala 79-69. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Jekabpils. The hosts trailed by 4 points after three quarters before their 26-12 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Jurmala dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Jekabpils' 28. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Guard Edmunds Elksnis (187-90) fired 23 points and 5 assists for the winners. Center Viktors Iljins (212-91) chipped in a double-double by scoring 14 points and 14 rebounds. Four Jurmala players scored in double figures. The former international center Jurijs Aleksejevs (202-85) produced 15 points and 6 rebounds and Lithuanian guard Modestas Kumpys (194-91, agency: Players Group) added 11 points and 6 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Jurmala moved-up to seventh place, which they share with BK Ogre. Loser Jekabpils keep the third position with 13 games lost. Jurmala will meet higher ranked Barons Riga (#5) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Jekabpils will play against VEF Riga and hope to secure a win.
