Regular Season Round 20: Panathinaikos - Panionios 61-52

Another interesting game was again a derby between two local teams from Athens: Panathinaikos (#4) and Panionios (#9). Panathinaikos (13-7) won against visiting Panionios (7-13) 61-52. Panathinaikos forced 22 Panionios turnovers. Strangely Panionios outrebounded Panathinaikos 45-33 including 35 on the defensive glass. American center Shamela Hampton (191-87, college: UNLV) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 17 rebounds. The former international Aspasia Kalampakou (178-93) contributed with 12 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. American forward Katie Healy (185-94, college: St.Bonaventure) replied with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds and the former international Ria Pateraki (185-93, college: Texas Woman's) added 10 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Panionios. Panionios' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Panathinaikos moved-up to third place. Panionios lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the ninth position with 13 games lost. Panathinaikos will face PAOK (#8) in Thessaloniki in the next round where they are favorite. Panionios will play on the road against Panathlitikos in Thessaloniki and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
