Regular Season Round 27: Joventut - Obradoiro 82-83

A very close game took place in Badalona between Blusens Monbus and Joventut. Sixteenth ranked Blusens Monbus (8-16) got a very close victory on the road over 14th ranked Joventut (8-18). Blusens Monbus managed to escape with a 1-point win 83-82 on Sunday evening. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 22-15. But Joventut won second period 17-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Blusens Monbus dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Joventut's 24. The best player for the winners was American point guard Mickey McConnell (182-89, college: St.Mary's, CA) who had a double-double by scoring 24 points and 10 assists (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). His fellow American import center Shayne Whittington (209-91, college: W.Michigan) chipped in 17 points and 6 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Four Blusens Monbus players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was Jamaican center Jerome Jordan (215-86, college: Tulsa) who recorded 17 points and 7 rebounds and swingman Albert Ventura (191-92) added 18 points respectively. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Blusens Monbus moved-up to thirteenth place. Loser Joventut dropped to the fifteenth position with 18 games lost. They share it with Zaragoza. Blusens Monbus will meet at home higher ranked Unicaja Malaga (#7) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Joventut will play against Gran Canaria (#5) and hope to secure a win.
