Regular Season Round 25: ASVEL - Hyeres-Toulon 73-59

There was no surprise when 13th ranked Hyeres-Toulon (9-16) was defeated on the road by eighth ranked ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket (13-12) 73-59 on Monday. The game was mostly controlled by ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket. Hyeres-Toulon managed to win third quarter 20-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Hyeres-Toulon 38-27 including 30 on the defensive glass. ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. American center Darryl Watkins (211-84, college: Syracuse, agency: Inception Sports) stepped up and scored 18 points and 8 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winners and U.S. Virgin Islands-Puerto Rican point guard Walter Hodge (183-86, college: Florida) chipped in 12 points and 9 assists. Four ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket players scored in double figures. At the losing side American swingman Trevis Simpson (193-91, college: NC-Greensboro, agency: Three Eye Sports) responded with 15 points and the other American import swingman Ryan Evans (203-90, college: Wisconsin) scored 11 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Defending champion maintains eighth place with 13-12 record. Hyeres-Toulon lost seventh consecutive game. They keep the thirteenth position with 16 games lost. They share it with Cholet and Chalons-Reims. ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket will meet league's leader Monaco on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Hyeres-Toulon will play against Olympique Antibes (#16) and hope to secure a win.
