Regular Season Round 9: Guaymas - Navolato 80-92

Very significant was Garra Canera de Navolato's (#6) 92-80 road victory against 4th placed Ostioneros de Guaymas. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Ostioneros de Guaymas. Garra Canera de Navolato made 23-of-30 charity shots (76.7 percent) during the game, while Ostioneros de Guaymas only scored five points from the stripe. They outrebounded Ostioneros de Guaymas 48-28 including a 35-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. American forward Mychal Ammons (198-92, college: S.Alabama) nailed a double-double by scoring 32 points and 20 rebounds for the winning side and his fellow American import swingman Dwayne Mitchell (196-82, college: La-Lafayette) accounted for 26 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists (went 11 for 11 at the free throw line !!!). Four Garra Canera de Navolato players scored in double figures. American-Bahrain swingman Rashad Woods (197-86, college: Kent St.) came up with 31 points and 6 rebounds and American center Shane Heyward (200-92, college: Columbus St.) added 12 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 blocks respectively for Ostioneros de Guaymas in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Garra Canera de Navolato (5-3) moved-up to third place, which they share with Obregon and Guasave. Ostioneros de Guaymas at the other side dropped to the sixth position with four games lost. They share it with Culiacan. Garra Canera de Navolato will play against Lobos UAD Mazatlan (#8) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Ostioneros de Guaymas will play against Caballeros de Culiacan and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
