Regular Season Round 27: Weert - Groningen 58-86

Eredivisie top team - Groningen (25-2) had no problems winning another game on Thursday. This time they crushed eighth ranked Weert (3-24) 86-58. The game without a history. Groningen led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Weert's 22. Groningen forced 25 Weert turnovers. 25 personal fouls committed by Weert helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for American forward Chase Fieler (203-92, college: FGCU) who led his team to a victory with 23 points and 4 assists. His fellow American import forward Andrew Smith (206-92, college: Liberty) contributed with 16 points for the winners. Swingman Akeel Eduardo (193-93) answered with 13 points and forward Rens Van-Ravensteijn (200-95) added 11 points in the effort for Weert. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Groningen have a solid series of four victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 25-2 record. Weert lost fifth consecutive game. They stay dead last with 24 lost games. Groningen are looking forward to face Rotterdam (#5) at home in the next round. Weert will play against Den Bosch and is hoping to prove to their supporters that they can break losing series.
