Regular Season Round 27: Torun - Asseco 109-108

Thirteenth-ranked Asseco (9-20) was very close to win a game against fourth ranked Twarde Pierniki (19-9) in Torun. Twarde Pierniki managed to secure only one-point victory 109-108. However their fans expected much easier game. Twarde Pierniki dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Asseco's 40 and made 26-of-33 charity shots (78.8 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Asseco 42-22 including 29 on the defensive glass. Twarde Pierniki players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists. Asseco was plagued by 32 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for Croatian forward Jure Skific (202-88, agency: XL Basketball Agency) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 13 rebounds. Power forward Krzysztof Sulima (202-90) helped adding 23 points and 9 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). The best for the losing side was the former international point guard Krzysztof Szubarga (178-84) with 42 points (!!!) and 4 assists and swingman Przemyslaw Zolnierewicz (196-95) scored 18 points and 5 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). Five Twarde Pierniki and four Asseco players scored in double figures. Asseco's coach Przemyslaw Frasunkiewicz rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Twarde Pierniki maintains fourth place with 19-9 record. Asseco lost their ninth game in a row. They keep the thirteenth position with 20 games lost. Twarde Pierniki will play against MKS Dabrowa Gornicza (#6) at home in the next round. Asseco will play against Trefl (#9) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
