The game between closely ranked teams ended with twelfth ranked Lanzarote's (10-16) home victory over 13th ranked Estudiantes B (7-20) 79-71 on Saturday. Lanzarote dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Estudiantes B's 24. They outrebounded Estudiantes B 37-18 including a 25-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was forward Alejandro Viera (198-93) who had a double-double by scoring 13 points and 12 rebounds. American guard Cameron Vines (193-93, college: St.Joseph, IN) chipped in 16 points. Four Lanzarote players scored in double figures. Lanzarote's coach Ivan Fernandez allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the other side the best for losing team was point guard Juan Llorente (180-93) who recorded 28 points and swingman Alex Tamayo (194-0) added 18 points respectively. Newly promoted Lanzarote maintains twelfth place in Group B with 10-16 record. Loser Estudiantes B keeps the thirteenth position with 20 games lost. Lanzarote will face higher ranked Gran Canaria B (#8) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Estudiantes B will play against Alcobendas (#11) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
