Regular Season Round 27: Almassera - Benidorm 72-51

There was a minor upset in Valencia where 3rd placed Benidorm (7-7) was rolled over by fifth ranked Almassera (3-13) 72-51 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 9-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 72-51. Almassera dominated on the defensive end, holding Benidorm to just 6 points in second quarter. The best player for the winners was point guard Joaquin Rodenas (186-90) who scored 20 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Forward Matias Boho (193-96) chipped in 9 points and 11 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Julian Lewis (196, college: Lewis) who recorded 11 points and 8 rebounds and the other American import forward Joscar Demby (203-88, college: Millikin) added 11 points and 7 rebounds respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Almassera maintains fifth place in Group E Descen with 3-13 record. Loser Benidorm dropped to the fourth position with seven games lost. Almassera will face higher ranked Sagunto (#3) in Gilet in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Benidorm will play at home against the league's leader Paterna and hope to win that game.
