Regular Season Round 25: Stabia - Fanola SML 89-57

There was a minor upset in Stabia where 8th ranked Fanola SML (8-15) was crushed by tenth ranked Castellammare (6-17) 89-57 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Castellammare. Fanola SML was better in fourth quarter 21-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Castellammare dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Fanola SML's 26. They outrebounded Fanola SML 48-21 including a 32-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. American-Irish forward Fiona O'Dwyer (178-99, college: Emmanuel, MA) fired a double-double by scoring 21 points, 13 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals (on 10-of-11 shooting from the field) for the winners. Guard Maria Ortolani (178-97) chipped in 22 points and 7 rebounds. Four Castellammare players scored in double figures. Point guard Elena Fietta (172-95) produced 9 points and 4 assists and forward Gloria Pettenon (175-91) added 7 points respectively for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Despite that victory Castellammare went down to eleventh position (A2) due to points difference. Newly promoted Fanola SML keeps the eighth place with 15 games lost. Castellammare will face higher ranked Udine Delser (#5) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
