Regular Season Round 25: Orvieto - Carugate 76-57

There was no surprise when 11th ranked Carugate (7-18) was crushed on the road by fourth ranked Orvieto (18-6) 76-57 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Orvieto. Carugate was better in third quarter 19-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Carugate to just 7 points in second quarter. They outrebounded Carugate 37-26 including a 32-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Lithuanian power forward Gintare Mazionyte (188-91, college: Texas) fired 23 points and 9 rebounds (perfect from the field making all nine shots !!!) for the winners. Power forward Giorgia Manfrc (183-92) chipped in 12 points and 6 rebounds. Orvieto's coach Massimo Romano used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Power forward Marta Scarsi (182-95) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 12 rebounds and point guard Claudia Colli (178-96) added 18 points respectively for lost side. Orvieto moved-up to third place in A2. Loser Carugate keeps the eleventh position with 18 games lost. Orvieto will face Bolzano (#13) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Carugate will play against Costa Masnaga and hope to win that game.
