The game in Reims was also quite interesting. Second ranked Avenir (21-4) played at the court of 5th ranked Reims (14-11). Avenir defeated Reims 60-47 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Avenir. Reims managed to win second period 19-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Reims to just 7 points in third quarter. Avenir forced 19 Reims turnovers. Center Mathilde Combes (184-96) fired a double-double by scoring 14 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. American forward Tiffany Clarke (183-91, college: Vanderbilt) chipped in 15 points and 9 rebounds. Four Avenir players scored in double figures. Avenir's coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Swingman Clementine Samson (181-91) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and Montenegrin center Natasa Popovic (192-82) added 14 points and 12 rebounds respectively for lost side. Avenir keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Roche. Loser Reims keeps the fifth place with 11 games lost. They share the position with COB Calais. Avenir will meet at home Dunkerque (#12) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Reims will play against SIG (#9) in llkirch-Graff. and hope to secure a win.
