A very close game took place in Rosh Pina between Maccabi Haifa and Galil Gilboa. Seventh ranked Maccabi Haifa (14-12) got a very close victory on the road over 10th ranked Galil Gilboa (11-15). Maccabi Haifa managed to escape with a 2-point win 84-82 on Sunday evening. The guests trailed by 7 points at the halftime before their 25-15 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Venezuelan point guard Gregory Vargas (180-86, agency: Pro Sports) had a double-double by scoring 16 points, 11 assists and 4 steals to lead the charge for the winners and international swingman Amit Simhon (198-89) chipped in 19 points during the contest. American Jason Siggers (194-85, college: Albany) responded with 30 points and his fellow American import forward Eric Griffin (203-90, college: Campbell) produced a double-double by scoring 15 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocks. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Galil Gilboa's coach Ariel Beit-Halamy rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Maccabi Haifa moved-up to fifth place. Newly promoted Galil Gilboa keeps the tenth position with 15 games lost. Maccabi Haifa will meet at home Maccabi Ashdod (#11) in the next round where they are favorite. Galil Gilboa will play against Maccabi K/G in Kiryat Gat and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
