Regular Season Round 28: Real Madrid - Baskonia 86-82

Very important is a road loss of third ranked Baskonia (18-8) against fourth ranked Real Madrid (19-7) on Sunday night. Visiting Baskonia was defeated by Real Madrid in a tough game in Madrid 82-86. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Baskonia. It was a key game for the second position in the league. It looked good early as Baskonia took a 2-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Real Madrid had a 24-19 second period charge getting the lead and Baskonia was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 82-86. Real Madrid made 22-of-29 charity shots (75.9 percent) during the game. Baskonia was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of Slovenian point guard Luka Doncic (201-99) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 15 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Liberian-American power forward Othello Hunter (203-86, college: Ohio St.) contributed with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. American point guard Shane Larkin (180-92, college: Miami, FL) replied with 16 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists (made all of his nine free throws !!!) and German center Johannes Voigtmann (211-92) added 13 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Baskonia. Four Real Madrid and five Baskonia players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Real Madrid have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion moved-up to second place. Baskonia at the other side dropped to the fourth position with eight games lost. They share it with FC Barcelona. Real Madrid will play against Sevilla (#15) at home in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Baskonia will play against Gran Canaria (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
