No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked Niigata Albirex (23-28) defeated on the road 6th ranked Toyama Grouses (14-37) 81-71 on Sunday. The best player for the winners was American Davante Gardner (203-91, college: Marquette) who scored 24 points and 6 rebounds. His fellow American import power forward Clint Chapman (208-89, college: Texas, agency: Babcock Sports) chipped in 18 points and 7 rebounds. American forward Sam Willard (205-88, college: Pacific, agency: Pensack Sports) produced a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds and forward Naoki Uto (188-91) added 16 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Four Toyama Grouses players scored in double figures. Niigata Albirex maintains fourth place with 23-28 record, which they share with Nagoya DD and Kyoto Hannar. Loser Toyama Grouses keep the sixth position with 37 games lost. Niigata Albirex will face higher ranked Hitachi Sunrockers (#3) in Tokyo in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Toyama Grouses will play on the road against the league's leader Toshiba Thunders in Kanagawa and hope to win that game.
