Regular Season Round 27: Le Portel - ASVEL 82-58

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both ninth ranked Le Portel and 8th ranked ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket had identical 13-13 record. This time Le Portel used a home court advantage and rolled over the opponent from Villeurbanne 82-58 on Tuesday night. The hosts trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 82-58. Le Portel dominated on the defensive end, holding ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket to just 7 points in third quarter. The best for the losing side was American center Darryl Watkins (211-84, college: Syracuse, agency: Inception Sports) with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds and American-Serbian guard DeMarcus Nelson (193-85, college: Duke) scored 10 points and 4 assists. ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket's coach gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. The victory was the third consecutive win for Le Portel. They moved-up to eighth place. Defending champion ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket dropped to the ninth position with 14 games lost. Le Portel will face league's second-placed Chalon/Saor on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket will play against JDA Dijon (#12) and hope to win that game.
