Regular Season Round 29: Venafro - Ortona 102-80

There was a minor upset when 10th ranked Ortona (11-17) was smashed on the road by twelfth ranked Venafro (10-16) 102-80 on Saturday. Venafro made 21-of-23 free shots (91.3 percent) during the game. Venafro outrebounded Ortona 38-22 including a 34-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Venafro especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.0 percentage. Power forward Mauro Liburdi (200-82) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Point guard Marco Rossi (183-81, agency: SPORTlab Agency) contributed with 16 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists for the winners. Four Venafro players scored in double figures. Power forward Gianluca Di-Carmine (200-86) answered with 27 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and swingman Luca Castelluccia (202-86) added 18 points in the effort for Ortona. Ortona's coach Sandro Di Salvatore gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Venafro moved-up to eleventh place in B. Loser Ortona keeps the tenth position with 17 games lost. Venafro will face Taranto (#15) on the road in the next round.
