There was an upset when second-ranked Bisceglie (23-6) lost to thirteenth ranked Valdiceppo (9-19) in Perugia 65-70 on Saturday. Naturalized Czech guard Filippo Meccoli-Matejca (194-92) orchestrated the victory by scoring 21 points and 4 steals. Center Alessandro Panzieri (201-95, college: High School) contributed with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Valdiceppo's coach Paolo Pierotti used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Naturalized Argentinian power forward Enzo-Damian Cena (201-92) answered with 17 points and 8 rebounds and guard Santiago Bruno (-93, agency: Players Group) added 13 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Bisceglie. Newly promoted Valdiceppo maintains thirteenth place in B with 9-19 record. Loser Bisceglie keeps the second position with six games lost. Valdiceppo will face higher ranked Ortona (#10) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Bisceglie will play against Monteroni (#16) and hope to win that game.
