Regular Season Round 27: Amazone - Royal Eagles 50-79

Bottom-ranked Amazone (0-27) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 79-50 loss to sixth ranked Royal Eagles (8-17) in Utrecht on Saturday evening. They dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Amazone's 26. Royal Eagles forced 24 Amazone turnovers and outrebounded them 53-38 including 19 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a great evening for point guard Anne van-Vlijmen (162-99) who led her team to a victory with a triple-double by scoring 10 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists. Laura Steggink (183-97) helped adding 15 points and 11 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). Four Royal Eagles players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Danielle Pruijs (184-97) with 14 points and 8 rebounds and Elisabeth Heerschop (174-95) scored 18 points and 4 steals. Newly promoted Royal Eagles maintains sixth place with 8-17 record. Loser Amazone still closes the standings. Royal Eagles will meet at home higher ranked Grasshoppers (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Amazone will play against the league's second-placed Loon Lions (#2) in Landsmeer and hopes to get finally their first victory.
