Regular Season Round 56: Kumamoto V. - Kagawa FA 96-85

There was no surprise when 5th ranked Kagawa FA (17-37) was defeated on the road by third ranked Kumamoto V. (40-14) 96-85 on Sunday. Kumamoto V. dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Kagawa FA's 30. They outrebounded Kagawa FA 45-24 including a 34-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. Kumamoto V. looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The best player for the winners was American forward Joel James (208-94, college: N.Carolina) who had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 13 rebounds. Guard Yuji Kanbara (183-89) chipped in 23 points and 5 assists. Guard Taku Bandoh (185-92) produced 28 points and American forward Chehales Tapscott (195-90, college: Portland St.) added 13 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Kagawa FA's coach let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Kumamoto V. maintains third position with 40-14 record having just one point less than leader Shimane SM. Loser Kagawa FA keeps the fifth place with 37 games lost. Kumamoto V. will face Kagoshima (#6) in Renova in the next round. Kagawa FA will play on the road against the league's second-placed Dragonflies in Hiroshima and hope to win that game.
