Regular Season Round 45: Ferrocarril - La Union 73-69
Date: April 17, 2017
Very expected game in Buenos Aires where 8th ranked La Union (21-30) was defeated by first ranked Ferrocarril (32-17) 73-69 on Monday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Ferrocarril forced 19 La Union turnovers. Center Jose-Ignacio Alessio (203-87) stepped up and scored 12 points for the winners and naturalized Spanish guard Jonathan Maldonado (188-90) chipped in 11 points and 6 rebounds. Ferrocarril's coach Alvaro Castineira used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was American-Jamaican center Torin Francis (210-83, college: Notre Dame) with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 17 rebounds and point guard Alejandro Konsztadt (191-89) scored 13 points and 8 assists. Four La Union players scored in double figures. Ferrocarril have an impressive series of five victories in a row. Despite that victory Ferrocarril went down to second position due to points difference. La Union lost third consecutive game. They keep the eighth place with 30 games lost. Ferrocarril will face Echague (#10) in Parana in the next round and are hoping to win another game. La Union will play on the road against Hispano Am. in Rio Gallegos and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
