Second Stage Round 8: Gorgan - Petrochimi 47-83

Leader Petrochimi delivered the sixth victory on Monday night. This time they crushed 5th ranked Shahrdari Gorgan (1-5) 83-47. The game without a history. Petrochimi led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Shahrdari Gorgan to just 7 points in first quarter. Petrochimi dominated down low during the game scoring 40 of its points in the paint compared to Shahrdari Gorgan's 20. Petrochimi forced 22 Shahrdari Gorgan turnovers and had a 33-18 advantage in offensive rebounds. Worth to mention a quality performance of Australian power forward Daniel Johnson (210-88, college: Pepperdine) who helped to win the game recording 18 points and 6 rebounds and international Mohammad Jamshidi (199-91) who added 11 points and 7 assists during the contest. Four Petrochimi players scored in double figures. Center Mahdi Moradinasab (202-92) responded with 14 points and the former international forward Karam Ahmadian (198-77) scored 12 points. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Petrochimi (6-1) have an impressive five-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position in Group 1. Shahrdari Gorgan at the other side keeps the fifth place with five games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
