The game had a very big importance for second-ranked San Lorenzo as it allowed them to take a leadership position. San Lorenzo smashed 10th ranked Echague in Almagra 96-67. The game was mostly controlled by San Lorenzo. Echague managed to win third quarter 28-27. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. San Lorenzo looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Echague's players. The former international Marcos Mata (201-86) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and the former international point guard Nicolas Aguirre (188-88) chipped in 15 points and 14 assists. Five San Lorenzo players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American center Derrick Caracter (206-88, college: UTEP) with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds and point guard Joaquin Baeza (182-86) scored 14 points and 4 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Echague lost sixth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the tenth place with 40 games lost. Echague will play next round against strong Ferrocarril trying to get back on the winning streak. San Lorenzo will try to continue on its current victory against seventh ranked Quilmes MP in Mar del Plata.
