Regular Season Round 6: Joondalup W. - Lakeside L. 71-81

There was a minor upset in Joondalup where 4th ranked Wanneroo (3-2) was defeated by fourth ranked Lightning (4-3) 81-71 on Friday. Lightning made 16-of-19 free shots (84.2 percent) during the game. Strangely Wanneroo outrebounded Lightning 52-37 including a 18-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American forward Ali Schwagmeyer (180-90, college: Quincy) who scored 38 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line). The other American import forward Sydnee Fipps (178, college: Cal-Davis) chipped in 20 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was swingman Nikita-Lee Martin (184-88) who recorded a double-double by scoring 12 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists and forward Klara Wischer (185-91, college: San Diego) added 19 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Wanneroo's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Lightning maintains fourth position in League with 4-3 record. Loser Wanneroo dropped to the sixth place with two games lost. Lightning will face Eagles (#10) in Morley in the next round where they are favorite. Wanneroo will play at home against the league's second-placed Magic (#2) and hope to win that game.
