Leader Gipuzkoa delivered the twenty fourth victory. This time they beat 6th ranked Leyma Basquet (19-14) 86-68 in San Sebastian. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Leyma Basquet. The game was mostly controlled by Gipuzkoa. Leyma Basquet was better in second period 16-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Leyma Basquet 41-29 including 30 on the defensive glass. It was a good game for Lithuanian center Tautvydas Slezas (207-90, agency: Interperformances) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 11 rebounds. Forward Sergi Pino (197-87, agency: Interperformances) contributed with 14 points for the winners. Five Gipuzkoa players scored in double figures. Naturalized Lithuanian forward Tautvydas Sabonis (203-92) answered with 8 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and American guard Zach Monaghan (188-92, college: Minn.St.-Mankato, agency: Duran International) added 7 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Leyma Basquet. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Gipuzkoa have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain first place with 24-9 record. Leyma Basquet at the other side keeps the sixth position with 14 games lost. They share it with Melilla. Gipuzkoa will play against bottom-ranked Marin (#18) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Leyma Basquet will play against Melilla Baloncesto (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
