There was a surprise result in Bullcreek where tenth ranked Cougars (1-6) edged higher ranked Lightning (4-3) 81-78 on Saturday. Lightning was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The game was dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was forward Kersten Mitchell (185-90, college: Illinois) who had a double-double by scoring 29 points and 12 rebounds. Forward Lindsey Doucette (190-94, college: Mass.-Lowell) chipped in a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Ali Schwagmeyer (180-90, college: Quincy) who recorded 26 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Sydnee Fipps (178, college: Cal-Davis) added 18 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Four Lightning players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Despite that victory Cougars went down to eleventh position (League) due to points difference. Loser Lightning keeps the fourth place with three games lost. Cougars will face higher ranked Redbacks (#5) in Northbridge in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Lightning will play on the road against Eagles in Morley and hope to win that game.
