Regular Season Round 28: Betanzos - Ponferrada CDP 75-67

There was a small surprise when eighth ranked Betanzos (13-12) beat at home 6th ranked Ponferrada CDP (15-10) 75-67 on Saturday. Betanzos dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Ponferrada CDP's 24. Betanzos forced 19 Ponferrada CDP turnovers. Ponferrada CDP was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a very good performance for Senegalese power forward Abdou Thiam (204-98) who helped to win the game recording 8 points and 19 rebounds. Center Marcos Rozas (202-83) contributed with 15 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Betanzos' coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American guard Sam Prescott (190-90, college: Mt.St.Mary's) replied with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and Haitian-American forward James Cambronne (201-91, college: St.Michael's) added 22 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Ponferrada CDP. Betanzos have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to seventh place in Group A-B, which they share with Naron. Newly promoted Ponferrada CDP keeps the sixth position with ten games lost. Betanzos will face league's second-placed Calidus Gal.COB in Ourense in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
