Regular Season Round 28: Mondragon - Burgos 79-94

Everything went according to plan when tenth ranked Burgos (11-14) defeated on the road 13th ranked Mondragon (7-19) 94-79 on Saturday. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Burgos dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Mondragon's 32 and made 19-of-23 free shots (82.6 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Mondragon 40-22 including a 32-12 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a very good performance for American guard Jalen Jaspers (190-92, college: Mary) who helped to win the game recording 27 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. British guard Jules Akodo (188-96) contributed with 17 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Five Burgos players scored in double figures. Andoni Aranzabal (188-91) replied with 20 points and 5 rebounds and point guard Imanol Ceciaga (186-90) added 17 points in the effort for Mondragon. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Burgos moved-up to eighth place in Group A-A, which they share with Muro Basquet and Valle de Egues. Mondragon lost tenth consecutive game. They keep the thirteenth position with 19 games lost. Burgos will face higher ranked Ardoi (#5) in Zizur Mayor in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Mondragon will play on the road against Pielagos (#7) in Renedo de Pielagos and hope to win that game.
