Regular Season Round 28: Menorca - Martorell 85-81

There was a minor upset when top-ranked Martorell (18-7) lost to third ranked Menorca (15-10) in Mahon 81-85 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 2-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 85-81. Menorca made 21-of-25 free shots (84.0 percent) during the game. Menorca had a 32-21 advantage in offensive rebounds. Martorell was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a very good performance for point guard Daniel Garcia-Tora (192-79) who helped to win the game recording 21 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Center Jan Orfila (207-84) contributed with 17 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Four Menorca players scored in double figures. Guard Guillem Jou (196-97) replied with 8 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists and guard David Jofresa (185-95) added 12 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Martorell. Martorell's coach Adria Alonso tried various players' combinations and tested in total twelve players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Newly promoted Menorca maintains third position in Group C-A with 15-10 record having six points less than leader Chantada. Loser Martorell still keeps top place with seven games lost. Menorca will face Mataro (#13) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Martorell will play against Olivar (#9) and hope to win that game.
