Regular Season Round 17: Mazatlan - Guaymas 106-103

The most exciting game of round 17 in the CIBACOPA took place in Mazatlan. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of second-ranked Ostioneros de Guaymas (10-6) to seventh ranked Lobos UAD Mazatlan (7-9) 106-103 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Ostioneros de Guaymas. It was a great shooting night for Lobos UAD Mazatlan especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.0 percentage. 24 personal fouls committed by Ostioneros de Guaymas helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American swingman Cliff Tucker (198-89, college: Maryland) orchestrated the victory by scoring 32 points and 4 steals. His fellow American import guard Jeff Ledbetter (190-88, college: Idaho) contributed with 26 points, 6 assists and 4 steals for the winners. American-Bahrain swingman Rashad Woods (197-86, college: Kent St.) answered with 22 points and American forward Matt Gwynne (208-87, college: Campbell) added 23 points in the effort for Ostioneros de Guaymas. Four Lobos UAD Mazatlan and five Ostioneros de Guaymas players scored in double figures. Ostioneros de Guaymas' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Defending champion moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Guasave. Ostioneros de Guaymas at the other side dropped to the fourth position with six games lost. Lobos UAD Mazatlan is looking forward to face higher ranked Tijuana Zonkeys (#3) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Ostioneros de Guaymas will play against the league's second-placed Halcones de Ciudad Obregon and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
