No shocking result in a game when second ranked Umana Venezia (19-9) defeated at home 12th ranked Openjobmetis VA (12-16) 87-81 on Sunday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Openjobmetis VA was trailing by 4 points at halftime but managed to get 5-point lead after three quarters before a 25-14 charge of Umana Venezia, which allowed them to win the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Canadian-Nigerian forward Melvin Ejim (200-91, college: Iowa St.) fired 17 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Croatian forward Hrvoje Peric (203-85, agency: PEPI SPORT) chipped in 13 points and 8 rebounds. Five Umana Venezia players scored in double figures. Umana Venezia's coach Walter De Raffaele allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American point guard Eric Maynor (191-87, college: VCU) produced 27 points and 8 assists (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) and his fellow American import Dominique Johnson (192-87, college: Azusa Pacific, agency: Higher Vision Sports) added 20 points respectively for lost side. Umana Venezia maintains second position with 19-9 record having just three points less than leader EA7 Armani. Loser Openjobmetis VA dropped to the tenth place with 16 games lost.
