Regular Season Round 8: Blumenau - Botafogo F.R. 98-86

Round 8 in Liga Ouro means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in where host Blumenau (6-7) beat league's leader Botafogo F.R. (11-3) 98-86 on Thursday evening. It ended at the same time the ten-game winning streak of Botafogo F.R.. Blumenau made 31-of-36 free shots (86.1 percent) during the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Blumenau made 7 blocks. 25 personal fouls committed by Botafogo F.R. helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was American guard Deonta Stocks (185-88, college: W.Georgia) who scored 25 points and 9 rebounds. Forward Bruno Lazzaris (202-90) chipped in 17 points and 8 rebounds. The former international guard Arnaldinho Filho (187-78) produced 22 points and point guard Rafinha da-Silva (183-88) added 14 points and 5 assists respectively for the guests. Five Blumenau and four Botafogo F.R. players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Blumenau maintains fourth position with 6-7 record. Botafogo F.R. at the other side dropped to the second place with three games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Contagem. Botafogo F.R. will play next round against league's leader Contagem trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Blumenau will try to continue on its current victory against fifth ranked Santos/Macapa on the road.
