Regular Season Round 29: Maccabi Haifa - Hapoel Holon 74-85

Date: April 28, 2017
The game in Haifa was also quite interesting. Second ranked Hapoel Holon (19-10) played at the court of 6th ranked Maccabi Haifa (15-14). Hapoel Holon defeated Maccabi Haifa 85-74 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Hapoel Holon. Maccabi Haifa managed to win fourth quarter 21-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Hapoel Holon made 21-of-25 free shots (84.0 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Maccabi Haifa turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American swingman James Bell (197-92, college: Villanova) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 10 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) for the winners and his fellow American import forward Darion Atkins (203-92, college: Virginia) chipped in 20 points and 5 rebounds. Hapoel Holon's coach Dan Shamir allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Venezuelan point guard Gregory Vargas (180-86, agency: Pro Sports) responded with 22 points and 5 rebounds and naturalized American point guard John DiBartolomeo (183-91, college: Rochester, agency: Duran International) scored 13 points and 5 rebounds. Hapoel Holon keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Hapoel Eilat. Maccabi Haifa at the other side keeps the sixth place with 14 games lost. They share the position with Maccabi Rishon and Ironi Nahariya. Hapoel Holon will meet at home bottom-ranked Maccabi K/G (#12) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Maccabi Haifa will play against Bnei Hasharon (#5) in Hod Hasharon and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
