Regular Season Round 29: Faros - Iraklis 87-78

There was a change at the A2 leadership position after last games. Round 29 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Iraklis (25-4). They were defeated by fourth ranked Faros (22-6) 87-78 on Saturday night. It ended at the same time the 12-game winning streak of Iraklis. Faros dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Iraklis' 34 and made 18-of-21 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. Point guard Nikos Liakopoulos (188-83) stepped up and scored 18 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners and Vaggelis Karaboulas (198-81) chipped in 24 points. Guard Yannis Gagaloudis (192-78) responded with 21 points and 8 assists and Lithuanian Ronaldas Rutkauskas (203-92) scored 14 points and 5 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Iraklis' coach Vangelis Alexandris rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Faros have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain fourth place with 22-6 record. Iraklis at the other side still keeps top position with four games lost. They were joined at the leadership position by Panionios who have the same record. There is only one round left in the Regular Season. And it will be most important game for Iraklis this season. They will face Amyntas Dafnis trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Faros will try to continue on its current victory against tenth ranked AE Larissas on the road.
