Regular Season Round 14: Panteras - Toros 84-71

There was a minor upset in Caracas where 5th ranked Toros (6-17) were defeated by fifth ranked Panteras (7-17) 84-71 on Saturday. The best player for the winners was swingman Morris Sierralta (190-87) who scored 18 points and 6 rebounds. American guard Kareem Canty (185-93, college: Auburn) chipped in 11 points and 5 assists. American-Jamaican center Dane Johnson (208-86, college: Hofstra) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) and the former international swingman Jorge Rondon (193-90) added 14 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the guests. Four Toros players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Panteras maintains fifth position with 7-17 record which they share with defeated Toros. Toros lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth place with 17 games lost. Panteras will face higher ranked Gigantes (#3) in Puerto Ordaz in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Toros will play at home against Gaiteros and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
