An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Maracaibo. Third ranked Guaros faced one of their biggest challengers Gaiteros. Guests from Barquisimeto (14-10) defeated host Gaiteros (6-14) 92-86. Strangely Gaiteros outrebounded Guaros 41-28 including 16 on the offensive glass. 30 personal fouls committed by Gaiteros helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American point guard Nate Robinson (175-84, college: Washington) notched 26 points and 5 assists to lead the effort and international point guard Heissler Guillent (186-86) supported him with 16 points and 4 assists. Even 32 points and 6 rebounds by American forward Al Thornton (203-83, college: Florida St.) did not help to save the game for Gaiteros. The former international forward Hernan Salcedo (198-80) added 8 points, 18 rebounds and 4 assists for the hosts. Five Guaros and four Gaiteros players scored in double figures. Gaiteros' coach Gustavo Garcia let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Defending champion maintains third position with 14-10 record having nine points less than leader Guaiqueries. Gaiteros lost third consecutive game. They keep the fourth place with 14 games lost. Guaros' next round opponent will be Marinos (#4) in Puerto La Cruz. Gaiteros will play on the road against Toros in Maracay and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
