Regular Season Round 59: Hitachi SR - Toyama Grouses 72-76

Very important is a home loss of second ranked Hitachi Sunrockers (30-27) against fifth ranked Toyama Grouses (17-40) on Sunday night. Host Hitachi Sunrockers were defeated by Toyama Grouses in a tough game in Tokyo 72-76. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Hitachi Sunrockers. Toyama Grouses made 22-of-27 charity shots (81.5 percent) during the game. American forward Sam Willard (205-88, college: Pacific, agency: Pensack Sports) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 19 rebounds. His fellow American import Drew Viney (204-88, college: Loyola Mary) contributed with 27 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Canadian center Robert Sacre (213-89, college: Gonzaga) answered with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) and international forward Ira Brown (193-82, college: Gonzaga) added 13 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Hitachi Sunrockers. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Toyama Grouses maintains fifth place with 17-40 record. Hitachi Sunrockers at the other side dropped to the third position with 27 games lost. Toyama Grouses will play against league's leader Toshiba Thunders in Kanagawa in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Hitachi Sunrockers will play at home against Niigata Albirex and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
