Regular Season Round 59: Sendai 89ers - Toyota Alvark 57-68

There was no surprise when 6th ranked Sendai 89ers (13-44) were defeated at home by second ranked Toyota Alvark (42-15) 68-57 on Sunday. The best player for the winners was American point guard Diante Garrett (196-88, college: Iowa St.) who scored 14 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. His fellow American import forward Jeff Ayres (206-87, college: Arizona St.) chipped in a double-double by scoring 10 points and 11 rebounds. Four Toyota Alvark players scored in double figures. American Greg Mangano (208-89, college: Yale) produced a double-double by scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds and South African center Tshilidzi Nephawe (208-89, college: N.Mexico St.) added 10 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Sendai 89ers' coach Takeo Mabashi let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Toyota Alvark. They maintain second place with 42-15 record having five points less than leader Tochigi Brex. Sendai 89ers lost their eighth game in a row. They keep the sixth position with 44 games lost. Toyota Alvark will face league's leader Tochigi Brex at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Sendai 89ers will play against Hokkaido L. (#4) in Saporro and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
