Very predictable result when top-ranked Flames (2-0) rolled over bottom-ranked Pirates (0-2) in Townsville 99-52 on Friday. The game without a history. Flames led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Pirates' 30 and made 24-of-28 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game, while Pirates only scored seven points from the stripe. They outrebounded Pirates 46-24 including a 35-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. Flames looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Pirates' players. Forward Darcy Garbin (185-94) orchestrated the victory by scoring 25 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Guard Mia Murray (184-88) contributed with 18 points for the winners. Flames' coach felt very confident using entire bench saving starting five for next games. Madelyn Willey replied with 22 points and 4 steals and German guard Sidney Parsons (168-87, college: Bridgeport) added 14 points in the effort for Pirates. Flames maintains fifth position in League with 2-0 record. Loser Pirates still closes the standings with two games lost. Flames will face higher ranked Meteorettes (#4) in Mackay in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Pirates will play at home against Rollers (#14) and look forward to get finally their first victory.
