Regular Season Round 8: Cairns D. - SW Metro P. 87-64

There was no surprise when bottom-ranked Pirates (0-2) were outleveled by sixth ranked Dolphins (1-2) in Cairns 87-64 on Saturday. Dolphins dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Pirates' 32. They outrebounded Pirates 41-24 including 28 on the defensive glass. Pirates were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Guard Myra Donkin (173-84) orchestrated the victory by scoring 14 points and 5 assists. Forward Rachel Pryor (184-89) contributed with 13 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Four Dolphins players scored in double figures. Dolphins' coach felt very confident using entire bench saving starting five for next games. Madelyn Willey replied with 21 points and 5 rebounds and German guard Sidney Parsons (168-87, college: Bridgeport) added 18 points in the effort for Pirates. Despite that victory Dolphins went down to ninth position (League) due to points difference. Loser Pirates still closes the standings with two games lost. Dolphins will face league's leader Brisbane Spartans on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Pirates will play against Rollers (#14) and look forward to get finally their first victory.
