Regular Season Round 31: Maccabi Rishon - Maccabi T-A 74-88
Date: May 6, 2017
The game in Rishon Le-Zion was also worth to mention about. Third ranked Maccabi T-A (19-12) played at the court of 6th ranked Maccabi Rishon (16-15). Maccabi T-A defeated Maccabi Rishon 88-74. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Maccabi Rishon. The game was mostly controlled by Maccabi T-A. Maccabi Rishon was better in third quarter 21-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Maccabi T-A forced 19 Maccabi Rishon turnovers. Strangely Maccabi Rishon outrebounded Maccabi T-A 40-24 including a 17-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of naturalized American forward Joe Alexander (203-86, college: W.Virginia) who helped to win the game recording 25 points (on 10-of-11 shooting from the field). The former international point guard Gal Mekel (190-88, college: Wichita St., agency: BeoBasket) contributed with 12 points and 7 assists for the winners. International power forward Idan Zalmanson (206-95) answered with 15 points and 9 rebounds and American swingman Patrick Richard (196-90, college: McNeese St., agency: Inception Sports) added 11 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Maccabi Rishon. Five Maccabi T-A and four Maccabi Rishon players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Maccabi T-A maintains third place with 19-12 record having just two points less than leader Hapoel Eilat. Defending champion Maccabi Rishon dropped to the seventh position with 15 games lost. Maccabi T-A's next round opponent will be Galil Gilboa (#9) in Rosh Pina which should be theoretically an easy game. Maccabi Rishon will play on the road against the league's second-placed Hapoel Holon and hope to win that game.
