Regular Season Round 9: Botafogo F.R. - Contagem 61-57

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Contagem (13-3) in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday night. Visitors were defeated by second ranked Botafogo F.R. (13-4) 61-57. It ended at the same time the 12-game winning streak of Contagem. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. Botafogo F.R. forced 21 Contagem turnovers. 27 personal fouls committed by Contagem helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for the former international guard Arnaldinho Filho (187-78) who led his team to a victory with 20 points and 5 assists (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!). Center Feliciano Perez (210-90) contributed with 8 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Point guard Eric Romualdo (185-83) answered with 21 points and Rodrigo Maistro (200-87) added 14 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Contagem. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Botafogo F.R. maintains second place with 13-4 record having just one point less than leader Contagem. Contagem at the other side still keeps top position with three games lost. Botafogo F.R. will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Contagem will play on the road against Joinville and is hoping to win this game.
