A very interesting game took place in East Burwood. It ended with only three-point home defeat of top-ranked Spectres (8-1) to top-ranked Mount Gambier Pioneers (8-0) 84-81 in the fight for the first place. It was a key game for the top position in League. American forward Daniel Alexander (206-91, college: Grand Canyon, agency: Haylett Sports) notched a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds to lead the effort and the former international swingman Brad Hill (196-86) supported him with 16 points and 7 rebounds. Even 28 points and 4 assists by Thomas Wright did not help to save the game for Spectres. Power forward Simon Conn (206-83, college: Gardner-Webb) added 18 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists for lost side. Four Spectres players scored in double figures. Mount Gambier Pioneers maintains first position in League with 8-0 record which they share with defeated Spectres. Spectres at the other side still keep top place with one game lost. Mount Gambier Pioneers' next round opponent will be Bendigo Braves (#4) on the road. Spectres will play against the league's second-placed Ballarat Miners and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
