Regular Season Round 31: Maccabi Haifa - Hapoel Eilat 84-86

Eighth-ranked Maccabi Haifa (15-16) gave a tough game to first ranked Hapoel Eilat (21-10) on Monday. The visitors from Eilat managed to secure only two-point victory 86-84. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 6-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 86-84. It was a great shooting night for Hapoel Eilat especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.9 percentage. 25 personal fouls committed by Maccabi Haifa helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a great evening for American forward Reginald Buckner (206-91, college: Mississippi) who led his team to a victory scoring 23 points and 7 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field). His fellow American import point guard Pierria Henry (193-93, college: Charlotte) helped adding 10 points and 6 assists. Hapoel Eilat's coach Oded Katash used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side Venezuelan point guard Gregory Vargas (180-86, agency: Pro Sports) responded with 12 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists and international Oz Blayzer (199-92) scored 16 points and 6 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Hapoel Eilat have an impressive series of nine victories in a row. They maintain first place with 21-10 record. Maccabi Haifa lost third consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with 16 games lost. Hapoel Eilat are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Maccabi K/G (#12) in Kiryat Gat in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Maccabi Haifa will play on the road against Hapoel Jerusalem (#4) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that they can break losing series.
