The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Monaco (28-4) on the court of eleventh ranked Cholet Basket on Tuesday night. Visitors were defeated by Cholet Basket 81-75. It ended at the same time the nine-game winning streak of Monaco. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 20-14. But Monaco won second period 17-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Cholet Basket won last quarter 30-25. They made 20-of-22 free shots (90.9 percent) during the game. Cape Verdean-Portuguese Ivan Almeida (198-89, college: Stonehill) orchestrated the victory by scoring 11 points and 8 rebounds. The former international forward Ilian Evtimov (201-83, college: N.Carolina St.) contributed with 18 points for the winners. Four Cholet Basket players scored in double figures. American center Brandon Davies (208-91, college: BYU, agency: BeoBasket) replied with 13 points and 9 rebounds and his fellow American import Jamal Shuler (192-86, college: VCU) added 9 points and 6 assists in the effort for Monaco. Monaco's coach Zvezdan Mitrovic rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Cholet Basket maintains eleventh position with 13-19 record, which they share with Le Mans. Monaco at the other side still keeps top place with four games lost. Cholet Basket is looking forward to face higher ranked Gravelines-Dunkerque (#9) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Monaco will play against Sluc Nancy (#18) and is hoping to win this game.
